Welcome to November at Play Resource. There is no denying that the festive season is fast approaching with only one month to go! To help plan your activities... why not book one the last few remaining places in our Arts Training Workshops to pick up new skills and ideas. The shop is full of exciting stock and new samples to inspire your Christmas activities with groups, and the Scrap Store won’t let you down with all the festive favourites!

Join us at the Play Resource AGM on Thursday 26 November at 6pm. All members are invited to come along and meet the staff and enjoy refreshments. Give a thought to getting involved in helping shape the future of Play Resource as we aim to welcome a few new faces to join the Board in a voluntary capacity at this AGM.

The Ideas & Inspiration factory at Play Resource has been as busy as Santa’s little helpers creating a range of Christmas Quick Ideas and Craft Sheets to collect.

Membership News

The Play Resource AGM is on Thursday 26 November at 6pm. All members are invited to come along and meet the staff, enjoy refreshments and a light buffet. We are looking for new Board members. If you would like to be part of this exciting dynamic team to help shape the future of Play Resource please contact  Gail McGarvey on 9035 7547 for more details and an application pack. We aim to ensure that our Board is representative of all the sectors that Play Resource currently supports including: arts, play, youth, education, and the environment. The arrival of Play Resource cotton shopping bags, as another way to reduce our own environmental footprint. We aim to cut down on the number of plastic carrier bags used by offering our own brand of long handled cotton shoppers – why not invest in one for only 99p from the shop? Keep it in your bag or car at all times, wear it loud and proud. Help us protect the environment, and spread the word about Play Resource!

The “Winter Wonderland” display in the Ideas Gallery continues giving you Ideas & Inspiration with the changing seasons in mind. Also on display is a selection of Christmas ideas using scrap materials.

Member to Member News

There has been a great response from members interested in the participating in the Eco-Arts Photography Project Florawatch, after news of the project launch went out on a special e-bulletin last week. Thank you for your interest in the Project! Due to the level of enquiries so far entries to participate have closed.

All contact details of those who made an enquiry so far have now been passed to the artist, Sylvia Grace Borda at Belfast Exposed who will deliver the project. She will be in contact in due course to talk to you further about the project and see how you best fit the criteria for participation. Sylvia will be able to outline any selection procedures involved. Good luck to the lucky ones who join the project – it certainly looks like an exciting opportunity!

This month sees the launch of a series of events to celebrate BBC Broadcasting House’s 70th Birthday and its contribution to the cultural and community life of Northern Ireland. Local children, young people, students and artists are invited to mark this special anniversary by taking part in an art competition. The theme is BBC Northern Ireland and its home at Broadcasting House, or a picture of what the BBC means to you.

The winning images will be included in an exhibition within Broadcasting House and will be reproduced in a series of BH@70 birthday prints. Our winning artists will also receive a VIP tour of Broadcasting House in Belfast and a visit to the BBC’s radio and television studios in London.

Pictures can be on any paper/canvas and in any two-dimensional medium or combination of such mediums, such as pencil, charcoal, pen/ink, paint or collage. Entries must be submitted unframed and be no smaller than A5 and no larger than A2.
