Welcome to March at Play Resource! Spring is in the air and as you can see from our latest monthly planner there is a multitude of activities on offer! The highlights from our new Calendar of Events have to be the summer Ideas & Inspiration Day 2010 now taking bookings, and the Puppet Making Master Classes on offer in partnership with the Beat Initiative. Plus chick out our Easter stock and new Quick Ideas in the Art & Play Shop….!! Other exciting news this month is…. our new website is live! Visit www.playresource.org to add it to your ‘favourites’ list. Don’t miss the deadline for entries to the ‘Our World’ Art Competition! If you have not yet started your group artwork piece get busy and deliver them to us by 5pm on Wednesday 31st March. Do you have an end of year Under-Spend? If so, Play Resource can offer a number of options for investing your hard earned budgets. To allocate them before year end - stock up your arts & play supplies from the shop or book an arts project with Creative Paths. Neil Shawcross will be judging the entries and awarding the prizes at the Exhibition Launch event on 29 April. Exciting news this month is…our new website is live!! Visit www.playresource.org to see the fresh look with easy navigation, even more pictures!! Perhaps most exciting of all is the increased Ideas & Inspiration library available online to search and download for free, so add it to your ‘favourite’s today. Don’t miss the two new contrasting exhibitions in the Ideas Gallery upstairs at Play Resource as another source of Ideas & Inspiration for arts projects. Journey back through time with our Ancient Civilizations inspired display, created by staff on a recent materials training day and you will see Mayan, Egyptian, Celtic, Roman, Native American and Aboriginal influences!! Or simply pause to take in the beautiful Going Slow photography exhibition by artist Jim Russell. It explores the beauty and diversity of the natural world around us encouraging everyone to do the same and seek out the mini jungles on our doorstep that provide a wealth of inspiration for arts projects! ‘Muck and Magic: alternative materials and their use in art education’ by Wicklow-based artist Roisin Markham, continues the Practice.ie Online Talk Series. During the live online talk on Thursday 11th March from 4-5pm Roisin will talk about her child-centred approach to facilitating learning through plants, muck and recycled materials in the context of a school environment. To find out more about our online events programme, visit www.practice.ie. A unique range of OCN Photography courses are now being offered by Belfast Exposed . If you are looking to gain a nationally recognized qualification in photography, enhance your existing skills, get the most out of your camera, have a refreshing new view of your environment and the wider world then these courses could be perfect for you! Courses include photo documentary, portrait, digital, photoshop and black and white. To book a place or find out more download the flyer or visit www.belfastexposed.org/training/individual.php The Grand Opera House puts out a call to local artists, writers, performers and groups for their proposals to take centre stage for the forthcoming Platform Performances , to take place in Luciano’s Café Bar. The theatre wants to hear from anyone who’s interested in bringing their work to new audiences. The performance spots are open to local singers, musicians, playwrights, theatre companies, schools, colleges, literally anyone, who wants an opportunity to perform to a small audience. If you are interested in putting yourself or your group forward to perform, please send a CV, image and performance proposal to outreach@goh.co.uk.
